How to choose the best carpet for your home
There are very few accessories that look perfect with any style of design and decoration, and one of those fabulous exceptions, of which no one should be deprived, is the carpet. Depending on the model, material and color, this element can give life to a corridor, be the focal point of a room, give sophistication to a bedroom, in short, it can contain the character you want.
Before going out in search of your favorite carpet, you must take into account some aspects to find the option that best suits your home and your needs.
The role of the carpet
You must define what will be the purpose of the carpet in your home and where it will be made. It can be a model to add color, softness, warmth, or be the protagonist in a room.
It establishes the ideal size to create the right balance in the selected location, and to allow normal daily activities.
In the dining room, it should not hinder the use of chairs.
In the corridors, you must expose the floor around you.
In the living room, to create a more informal look, you must cover the space underneath the furniture, while to have a formal atmosphere, the carpet must leave floor visible in its outline.
In a small space, it is advisable to opt for neutral and soft colors, so you will get a room in a wider appearance. Using darker and deeper colors will achieve a more welcoming environment.
They are the starting point for decoration. The shades and designs of a rug will determine the color palette and style of the rest of the room. This way you will create unified spaces.
You do not necessarily have to use a rectangular model. You can get creative and give it the shape you want. A square carpet puts the touch of perfection to any room, and a round one will provide movement and create a less structured space.
And now … to buy the ideal carpet! Be sure that it will completely transform your decoration. Remember to contact a specialist as American Loss consultant.
5 tips to keep your carpets in perfect condition
Carpets are accessories that improve the appearance of any room, perfect for covering large areas when the floors are not very nice. But if you do not give them proper maintenance, beauty can quickly become a careless and unpleasant vision. That’s why we bring you these simple tricks that will help you keep your carpet fabulous.
If you want your carpet to last for many years, you will have to clean it regularly. How often should a carpet be cleaned? With a vacuum machine at least once a week and you will be doing a lot, this way you will prevent dirt from settling on the carpet fibers and reduce odors.
Care for the floors under the carpets
Because the lower part of a carpet never has the opportunity to show off, that does not mean that the material it is made of is indistinct. Keep in minds that the material with which the lower parts of some carpets are made are somewhat rough, and could leave marks on delicate floors.
Protects rugs with sharp edges
A dining set arranged on a carpet always looks very nice, but the ugly or bad taste is that the carpet is broken or torn. Before supporting a piece of furniture on a carpet, make sure that the legs and edges are not sharp or that they do not have any object that could ruin the carpet.
Clean up spills and remove stains
A serious mistake you can make when cleaning a carpet is using too much water to remove a stain. It is usually enough to apply a few drops of liquid dishwashing detergent, and then dry very well to avoid the formation of mold and the consequent bad odors.
We said that vacuuming the carpet once a week is a good thing to keep it in good condition, but it is essential that at least once a year you receive a professional cleaning. Ask for our support to contact the right person to do it.

Installing a Carpet
Installing a carpet is not something that everyone wants to do. It can be heavy for your knees and back and if you do not do it right, everyone will know where you were wrong. However, installing a carpet does not “have any science” and with the help of some specialized tools (available in most rental establishments) and being prepared to do it in time, installing a carpet is a job you can do yourself.
The first step is to remove the old carpet. Start by removing the moldings around the floor and removing the entrance door so you can take out the old carpet and put in the new one more easily. Use the vacuum cleaner on the old carpet so you do not breathe the dust and then with a knife cut into strips between 3 and 4 feet wide (most cities require this to be collected).
Start at one end and pull the carpet to remove the strip and roll it in sections. Some people think they can reuse the layer below, but in most cases it will be worn out just like the carpet, so it will be better to get rid of it too.
DO NOT REMOVE THE MOLDINGS and make sure the floor is clean and dry. This is a good time to check the floor below and hold loose floorboards so they do not squeak under the new carpet (use 1 ½ “screws to fix the floor joists)
If the construction is new install new moldings that go on the wood or vinyl floor around the perimeter of the room, but not in front of the doors. Leave a space of about ½ inch between each molding and the wall, and make sure that the nails or studs are facing the wall (they call them moldings without tacks although they have two or three rows of very sharp tacks, since using these “moldings” means that you do not need “tacks” to put the carpet). At the corners, make sure that the strips of moldings are tightly pressed together.
Put the lower protector in strips that meet or reach the moldings. Put the strips against each other – do not overlap them – then staple the lower guard through the inside of the moldings. Cut the remaining excess and use adhesive tape to seal the joints. A little bit of glue can be used on concrete floors to keep the protector in place.
To install the carpet properly, you need to start with a piece that overlaps the edges of the floor by 4 or 6 inches. The excess can be cut so that the carpet fits perfectly. To cut the first section, measure the fourth from the longest point and add 6 inches to that measurement. Mark the carpet on the back on both ends with that measure and join both marks with a line.
Drop the carpet on itself and using something straight to trace and a sharp knife, cut through the back of your carpet. Be sure to put a table that you no longer use below the cutting line to protect the lower protector of the carpet.
Work by stretching the carpet throughout the room on the moldings and cut the carpet that is close to the wall with a knife or an automatic cutter.
Using a step, fold the carpet into the space between the moldings and the wall. In the part of the door, cut the carpet so that the end is under the door when it is closed and install a molding. Finally, cut any openings and install the moldings at the base of the floor.
That is all. Stretch your back, see if your knees still work and then take some time to admire all that your work has accomplished.
